Admin./ biographical historyRupert Allan Willis was born in 1898, at Yarram, Victoria, Australia. He was educated at Melbourne University, and graduated from the Alfred Hospital in 1922. He worked as resident medical officer for a year at the Alfred Hospital, before becoming medical superintendant at the Austin Hospital, Melbourne from 1930-1945. During this appointment in 1933-1934 he spent one year as a Rockefeller research fellow with Sir Arthur Keith at the Buckston Browne Research Farm. In 1945 he came back to England and spent 3 years as the Sir William Collins Professor of Pathology at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. In 1948 he was appointed as pathologist to the Royal Cancer Hospital , followed two years later by the chair of pathology at Leeds University where he stayed for 5 years. At this point he semi-retired, but continued work on various projects. He died aged 81 on the 26th March 1980.
