Admin./ biographical historyMarie Jean Pierre Flourens was a Physiologist. He undertook a series of experiments to demonstrate the general functions of major sections of the vertebrate brain. In the 1830s, he lectured on human and comparative anatomy at the Jardin du Roi, where he was elected to a professorship. In 1833, he was appointed Perpetual Secretary of the Academy of Sciences.
