Admin./ biographical historySir Richard Owen was Conservator of the Hunterian Museum from 1842-1856, having been assistant to the previous conservator, William Clift from 1827. After leaving the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Owen became Superintendant of the Natural History departments at the British Museum, leading eventually to the building of the new Natural History Museum in South Kensington. Scope and Content1. Autograph Letter from Richard Owen to Sir Astley Cooper dated January 9th 1837, regarding the purchase of John Flint South’s collection. Cooper’s reply is written on the letter also.
