Admin./ biographical historyRobert Lawson Tait was a General Surgeon, Gynaecologist, and Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (1871). He specialised in pelvic and abdominal surgery. He emphasised asepsis and reduced surgical mortality significantly. He introduced salpingectomy in 1883 as the treatment for ectopic pregnancy. He was also instrumental in the opening of the Birmingham Hospital for Women where he worked for 20 years.

Scope and ContentThis collection consists of:
1. Two photographs. Caption on the back reads: 'Given me by Mr Lawson Tait, showing the condition of skin in a boy the subject of congenital ichthyosis or xeroderma. Published by Mr Lawson Tait in the Journal of Cutaneous Medicine about 1870'.
2. Cover of folder in which the photographs were found. Label heading says "Ichthyosis. Keloid. Vitiligo."
