Admin./ biographical historyJohn Pearson was a Surgeon and a Member of the Company of Surgeons of London (1781). After training at the Leeds General Infirmary, he came to London in 1780, and became a student at St. George's Hospital, London to work under John Hunter (1728–1793). He was granted the diploma of the Company of Surgeons on 4th October 1781, when he was found qualified to act as Surgeon to a regiment. In the same year he became House Surgeon to the London Lock Hospital. In 1782 he was appointed Surgeon, a post he held until 1818. At about the same time he was also made Surgeon to the public dispensary in Carey Street, an office which he resigned in 1809.

1. The first volume is titled "Lectures on Surgery delivered in London during the years 1790 & 1791 by John Pearson, Surgeon to the London Lock Hospital and to the public dispensary, Carey Street, Vol. 1". Contains a contents list at the back.
2. The second volume contains a contents list at the front and a "set of miscellaneous questions and answers" at the back.
