Scope and ContentThis volume contains notes by William Clift relating to John Hunter:
1) Quarto manuscript by William Clift on his transcription of Hunter’s manuscripts. Plarr's "Catalogue of Manuscripts" (1928) describes the manuscript as 'Note on the preservation of the Hunterian observations before their destruction by Sir Everard Home.' Not dated - but the paper is watermarked 1821. (1 leaf)
2) Quarto manuscript by Anne Hunter - Epitaph on John Hunter. Not dated - but after 1804/5 which is mentioned in the text. (1 leaf)
3) Quarto manuscript by William Clift on his condition as Hunter’s clerk. Plarr's "Catalogue of Manuscripts" (1928) describes the manuscript as 'Clift’s own account of his early apprenticeship to John Hunter. (a very roughly written manuscript)' (2 leaves)
4) Folio manuscript by William Clift on 'a short account of my life.' The manuscript is dated 30 March 1840. (2 leaves)
5) Folio manuscript by Richard Owen titled "Biography of William Clift." (9 leaves.)
