DescriptionProsthetic left hand with articulated fingers and thumb, in wood, leather and steel, c. 1900, formerly the property of the 1st Earl of Halifax (1881-1959).
This prosthesis was one of several made for Edward Frederick Lindley Wood (1881-1959), 1st Earl of Halifax and Viceroy of India from 1925 to 1931, who had a congenital absence of the left hand from the mid-carpal region. This artificial hand has hinged fingers, a thumb mounted on a spring and a box fitting in the palm for holding utensils.
