Transcript1473: The tongue, os hyoides and larynx of a Crane (Ciconia argala). The tongue is lancet-shaped, and tipped with a horny sheath. It is relatively extremely small. The tracheal rings shown in this preparation are entire as in all Birds, but are alternately broad and narrow on either side. This peculiarity is common to Wading Birds and firmly locks the rings together, thus diminishing the risk of lateral dislocation.
