DescriptionSkull of an elderly adult female giant panda.
Calvarium sectioned and remains disarticulated. From a panda named 'Ming' purchased by the London Zoo from Floyd Tangier Smith in 1939. She was one of the first pandas ever seen in Britain along with the other Tangier Smith animals Sung, Tang, Happy and Grandma. Ming died at the London Zoo, approx 7 years of age, on Boxing Day 1944. She was purchased for anatomical study by the College through Alexander Cave. She was autopsied and her brain and spleen retained for the collections.
