DescriptionSection of the metacarpal bone of an ass showing the exfoliation of a portion of bone after cauterisation had occurred long before death.
The long period between the occurrence of the injury and death has resulted in a highly developed response to it, with complete separation of the dead bone and extensive new bone development enclosing the sequestrum.

TranscriptSection of the metacarpal bone of an ass, on which a similar injury was inflicted, a longer time before the death of the animal. The separation of the dead bone is complete. The ring of new bone formed around the sequestrum, extends half an inch over its margins, enclosing it in a cavity which has a central aperture filled with granulations from the surrounding soft parts.

TranscriptA preparation of the same kind, in which the dead portion of the bone is detached, but remains inclosed in a case of new bone that is formed over it. A fistulous canal is exposed, extending from the cavity in which the dead bone lies, to the surface of the granulations.
