DescriptionReplica of the Royal Society of Medicine gold medal, after 1920.
Obverse: Hygeia stands with a snake on her left arm, garlanding a kneeling youth who holds the lighted lamp of research.
Reverse: The centaur Chiron teaches the young Asclepius: the boy holds a poppy head and at his waist a spring pours water through a lion-head fountain. A snake is coiled beneath the centaur.
The medal was insitutued by the RSM in 1920 and the inaugural recipient was Sir Almroth Wright.
