DescriptionGreat Exhibition juror's medal, by William Wyon and George Gammon Adams, 1851.
Obverse: Portraits of Prince Albert and Queen Victoria, profile to left; below, two dolphins signifying the naval power of the empire. To the right, a three-pronged fork.
Reverse: Three female allegorical figures; Industry is seated upon a cornucopia, encouraged by Commerce, with a lion at her feet, and crowned by Fame who carries a caduceus and has a lyre and globe at her feet.
For the Great Exhibition of 1851, over 300 jurors were appointed to allocate prizes. Each juror received this medal along with a personal letter from Prince Albert in recognition of their service.
