DescriptionA mummified left foot, with remains of bandaging and a plant bulb bound against the sole, mounted on a turned wooden pedestal stand with a glass dome.
Beneath the foot, pasted on to the upper surface of the pedestal stand, is a manuscript label which identifies this specimen as coming from the mummified remains of an ancient Egyptian, from the Royal Society's collection, dissected in 1763 by William and John Hunter for Dr John Hadley. An account of the dissection, with a plate showing the foot, was published in the Society's Philosophical Transactions in 1764.
