DescriptionPlaster cast of the face of Private W Kearsey, one of a series of masks showing patients treated by Harold Gillies and colleagues at Queen’s Hospital, Sidcup, during and after the First World War. The casts record patients’ facial injuries and the reconstructive surgical treatment they received. This cast is a modern copy - the original is in the collections of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
Private Kearsey served with the 33rd Battalion, First Australian Imperial Force. He was wounded in France in October 1917 and was transferred to the hospital in November the same year. After undergoing treatment he was discharged and returned to Australia in May 1919.
