1) Folder containing 6 files of lecture notes taken by Lister as a student: John Eric Erichsens clinical lectures 1851; Alfred Baring Garrod's Clinical lectures 1851; William Jenner's clinical lectures 1851; Richard Quain's clinical lectures 1851; Dr. Walter Hayle Walshe's clinical lectures 1852 and Dr Walshe's lectures on Medicine, 31 booklets, c. 1851. 2) Draft and manuscript of Lister's introductory lecture to new students at his surgery lectures at Edinburgh University, 1855. [Folder 13]
3) Various notes written by Lister for lectures 1855 - 1863 on 'The Old Operation for Aneurisms'; 'Functions of the Ligaments of the Knee Joint'; 'Aortie Tourniquet'; 'Human Inflammation'; 'Succesful Amputation in Senile Gangrene'; 'Mode of Tying Large Circula Nerve'; Immersion of the foot, following Intra-capsular fracture of the neck of femur'; 'Loose cartilage'; 'Illustrating the effects of dilatation' and 'Senile Gangrene'; Various notes written on scraps of paper; case notes for two patients and attendance sheets for Lister's extra-academical lectures at Edinburgh. The notes are also accompanied by two letters from James Symes; 1 letter from William Cadge and 1 letter from John Erichson
4) Lister's notes for his extra-academical lectures given in Edinburgh 1855-1856 and 1857 - 1858 and for his extra-academical lectures given in Glasgow 1860 - 1863. The notes have been organised by year and then by lecture [1 box].
5) Lecture delivered by Lister to the Royal College of Surgeons 'On Inflammation: It is a description of microscopic observations of blood flowing through a frog's foot, a sample of human blood, and horses blood. Lecture also includes the structure of capilliaries and arteries. December 1856 [Folder 17]
6) Transcript of the Croonian Lectures on the coagulation of the blood delivered by Lister at a meeting of the Royal Society 11 June 1863. The corrections on the transcript are by Lister, however the transcript itself is written by someone else based on the shorthand notes of Robert H Tolcher, shorthand writer. Folder also includes a printed copy of the lecture and a sheet of sketches showing a frogs foot. [Folders 28 and 28a]
7) Volume containing lecture notes from the Surgical Lectures of Professor Lister, Glasgow University, 1863-5 by Alexander Forsyth.
8) Volume containing notes on Lister's lectures on the theory and practice of surgery, Glasgow, 1863-4, taken by Robert W Forrest. The front of the volume also includes a letter from Forrest to Sir Rickman Godlee dated 23 January 1919 giving details of the donation of the volume and also including details of which of Lister's lectures the notes relate to. A small envelope inside the volume also contains negatives of some of the pages of notes.
9) Volume containing notes of lectures on surgery delivered by Lister at Glasgow University 1-21 November 1864. The notes were taken by P.H. Mckeller (surgeon at St Thomas' Hospital) and are believed to have been written initially in short-hand and written up in full at a later date (letter from D'Arcy Power regarding this is in the front of the volume). The volume was presented to the college by Sir D'Arcy Power, in 1928, and has his bookplate in the front.

11) Handwritten draft of Selected lectures on Clinical Surgery by Lister, No. 1 On Granulations, 9 January 1871 and letter written by Lister to the Editor of the Lancet titled 'Clinical Surgery in London and Edinburgh: Discussion of the different systems of teaching in Edinburgh and most London Schools of Medicine showing preference for Edinburgh's system with its provision for bedside instruction (no date). [Folder 79]
12) Volume containing W. Watson Cheyne's notes on cases in the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh and Lectures in Clinical Surgery given by Lister 1872-1873. A printed index arranged according to subject has been included in the front of the volume. The first page of the volume also contains a hand written note recording that W. Watson Cheyne presented the volume to the Royal College of Surgeons of England, December 1917.
13) Draft of a clinical lecture delivered at King's College Hospital 10 December 1877 'On a case of excision of the knee joint and on horse hair as a drain, with remarks on teaching of Clinical Surgery'. [Folder 51]
14) Clinical lecture 'Account of a case of the removal of growth on vocal chords and the voice retained' (no date). [Folder 52]
15) Handwritten, in ink, lecture on a treatment for abscess spine and reference to treatment of granulation sores, 11 July (no year). [Former ref. Miscellaneous folder]
16) Roll containing A3 sheets used by Lister as headings for his lectures on Causes of Mortification; Varieties of Ulcers; Simple or Non-Malignant Tumors; Affections of particular organs or regions; Affections of physiological systems; Affections common to all organs and tissues.
17) 6 rolls of lecture diagrams showing the effects on bacteria in differing environments such as boiled milk, pasteur solution and turnip infusion, over differing periods of time. [These are approximately 1m wide and between 1.2m and 7.75m long so researchers are given digital copies to view in the Reading Room].
