Scope and ContentThis sub-fonds includes correspondence between Lister and his contemporaries regarding aspects of surgery, scientific matters, testimonials and management issues including letters from Professor William Sharpey, Dr Preston Lewis and Sir Alfred Claud Hollis. The correspondence also includes a volume of letters written by Lister's contemporaries compiled by Sir Rickman Godlee, which also includes some testimonials and letters from Godlee.
Other correspondence includes letters of condolence on the death of Lord Lister and letters written on Lister's behalf by his wife.
The sub-fonds has been divided into 18 series, arranged primarily by correspondent and then chronologically by date.
