Admin./ biographical historyThe British Journal of Surgery (BJS) is a monthly peer-reviewed publication targeting surgeons and the associated specialities, which began in 1913. The first meeting of the Editorial Committee and Sub-Committee was held at the Royal College of Surgeons of England on 13th February 1913, at 2.30pm. The meeting was attended by the following persons: Sir William Bennett, Edred Moss Corner, Sir Thomas Crisp English, Charles Herbert Fagge, William Sampson Handley, Robert Jones, Sir Berkeley Moynihan, and Ernest William Hey Groves, with Sir Berkeley Moynihan as chair. The British Journal of Surgery was to be a periodical devoted entirely to surgery, and was to be published by John Wright & Sons Ltd. It is currently published by Oxford University Press.
Scope and ContentTwo volumes of minutes of the Editorial Committee and Sub-Committee of the British Journal of Surgery. Includes minutes, some financial accounts and letters related to the activities of the Journal. Both volumes have a subject index at the front.

Physical descriptionThe second volume has been damaged by water during the Second World War. It has been rebound, but remains fragile.
