Scope and ContentThis volume contains manuscript recipes or receipts from the late 17th century to mid 18th century. The manuscript has been used both ways up, with notes on both sides of the leaves.
The main part of the volume contains recipes for various conditions and diseases including the "cholick," dissentery, scaldings, consumption, jaundice, piles and scurvy. The souces of the information are a variety of women, physicians, chemists and apothecaries, who are sometimes named. Those who appear more frequently include Mr Boyle, Dr Halse, Dr Willis and Dr Jennings. These recipes appear to date from the late 17th century.
There are some notes in a different hand, from the early 18th century detailing some accounting information such as wage payments in 1703-1704, and the death of the wife of William Wyatt, surgeon, on November 21st 1711.
Later additions to the volume in a different hand are accounts information, possibly for a farm as the accounts refer to wheat, sheep, lambs, ewes, and horses. These notes tend to date in the mid 18th century from around 1750-1763.
