Admin./ biographical historyWilliam Nesham was a Surgeon and a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and a Licentiate of the Society of Apothecaries (1821). He was the surgeon at Newcastle Lying In Hospital and Out Charity. His son was Thomas Cargill Nesham, also a Surgeon and a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a Licentiate of the Society of Apothecaries (1863). Nesham became a Medical Tutor, and later Lecturer on Anatomy, at the Newcastle College of Medicine. He remained at the Newcastle College of Medicine when it became the University of Durham College of Medicine, lecturing on anatomy and midwifery. He was Physician Accoucheur (Midwife) at the Newcastle, Lying-In Hospital, and also Physician at the Hosptial for Women, Newcastle. His son, Robert Anderson Nesham, was also a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Scope and ContentFour volumes on notes on lectures given by Sir Benjamin Collins Brodie FRCS. (1783-1863), and one volume of notes of lectures given by Sir James Young Simpson. The notes on Brodie's lectures were taken by William Nesham in approximately 1820, and the volume of notes of lectures by Simpson were taken by Nesham's son Thomas Cargill Nesham in approximately 1860.
