Admin./ biographical historyThe Court of examiners met every two weeks to examine candidates for membership of the Company (the diploma exam) as well as naval and army surgeons, mates and assistants.
Scope and ContentLists the date, the examiners present (not always), the names of those examined, and the qualification granted, e.g. diploma, India Service, (naval) surgeon, regimental surgeon, (naval) surgeon's 1st mate, 2nd mate or 3rd mate, and the rate (1st-7th), which refers to the type of ship they were allowed to work on, or hospital assistant. Occasionally lists new apprentices and their master's, and surgeons superannuated from the military.
