Admin./ biographical historySir William Henry Flower was a Surgeon, and Curator and Conservator of the Hunterian Museum between 1861 to 1884. He was also a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (1857). He was Hunterian Professor of Comparative Anatomy and Physiology from 1870 to 1873, and for a second time between 1876 to 1884. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1864, served as a Member of the Council, was a Vice-President and was awarded a Royal Medal in 1882.

Jane Georgiana Rosetta Flower (née Smyth) was born in Bedford in 1835, and was the daughter of Admiral William Henry Smyth and Eliza Ann Smyth. In April 1858, she married William Henry Flower and they had seven children together.

Scope and ContentThis collection contains the papers of Sir William Henry Flower, [1845-1883], comprising papers largely created and compiled as Curator of the Hunterian Museum of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, relating to preparations, salaries, collections etc. There are also papers relating to preparations of specimens. There are also sketches of the College building at Lincoln's Inn Fields by Lady Georgiana Flower (née Smyth).
