Scope and ContentThe volume contains manuscript notes of lectures by Sir Astley Cooper, Joseph Henry Green, and John Abernethy. There are also notes from Sir Charles Bell's 'Operative Surgery.' The notes were taken by Richard Wilson Brown, whose signature appears at various points in the volume.
The volume begins with 'Lectures on Surgery delivered by Sir Astley Cooper at St Thomas's Hospital, London. October 1821.' These notes continue to page 173. The following page contains notes titled 'On Diseases of the Eye, by JH Green, Esq.' dated December 19th, which continue until page 204. From page 205 are further notes of lecture by Sir Astley Cooper, on lithotomy, dated January 30th 1822, which end at page 234.
Page 235 to 249 contains a section titled 'Anatomical and Surgical notes from Sir Charles Bell.' These notes are not from lectures but from his 'Operative Surgery,' and the notes are dated February 6th 1823.
At the back of the volume are 'Surgical Notes from the lectures of John Abernethy FRS, London, RW Brown, February 6th 1822.' which are numbered pages 1 to 72. Following this are 'Casual Observations made in describing the Anatomy of the Fore-Arm,' by RW Brown on page 73; and 'Lecture on the Anatomy of the Eye, by Mr Stanley.'
